Meet the Artist - Christal Steele
Christal Steele
"Every photograph you make is a self-portrait."
~ Christal Steele
It can be magical when one form of creative talent flows and morphs into a new medium. So it is with Christal Steele, a concert violinist who has studied with some of the finest pedagogues in the world. “One of the greatest things I learned was not to ‘copy’ them, but to take the knowledge they imparted and develop my own style. I have tried to do the same with my photography.” Christal’s photographic style constantly grows and evolves as she learns new techniques. Most recently she is producing some black and white photography and working to create moody and ethereal images, although there isn’t a subject she does not enjoy shooting. “If a subject is in good light, I’ll shoot it.” That said, Christal does enjoy connecting with people and shooting environmental portraits of them, including within the orchestral world since musicians often make interesting subjects...and it’s where she has her roots. Ultimately, Christal hopes only to move someone through her images. “Nobody would want to listen to an orchestral performance that was out of tune or not well conceived. Likewise, with photography it gives me great pleasure when I can inspire someone to visit a location or find beauty in my work.”
