After working as a captain at a major U.S. Airline for 10 years, Miles felt he had reached the pinnacle of his career and wanted a new challenge. Given that his father was a successful photojournalist, Miles decided to explore photography as a way to honor his father’s legacy and fulfill his desire for a new vocation. How and what Miles does with his photography has morphed over the last decade. Drawn to grand landscape scenes, he has landed most recently with the application of only subtle touches to his finished work, maintaining light levels and color saturation so they closely reflect the true scene. A life-threatening medical condition in 2016 helped Miles realize what a powerful and wonderful tool his photography has been in enriching his life. “I had time to reflect on what had happened...what I discovered was that I was at peace with myself and what I had experienced, due to the fact that during the last 10 years I’ve seen more beauty and more adventure, thanks to my photographic pursuits.” Today, Miles wants to keep pushing himself, as the vistas become more addicting. He prefers to let his images speak for themselves, the way nature can sculpt light, depending on the weather, time and place.
